Push-back Racking

Based on the pallet moving mechanism, push-back racking can be divided into two types: shuttle-type push-back racking, where all pallets except those at the end are placed on a shuttle, which then travels along a slightly inclined track; and roller-type push-back racking, which relies on its own slightly inclined roller platform to transport pallets. Both are high-density storage devices and can be used in combination with other warehousing systems.

How does a push-back rack system work?

Push-back racking adopts gravity trolley and rail design with LIFO storage logic, the following shows its complete operation principle.
Basic Operating Principles of the Equipment
Push-back racking relies on gravity-operated trolleys or a rail system to achieve smooth and regular pallet movement within the aisles. All pallet movement is completed inside the racking system; forklifts operate only in the front external aisle, without needing to enter the racking itself, resulting in a streamlined workflow.
Inbound/Outbound Process
The forklift first places the first pallet on the trolley or rail at the picking bay. When placing the second pallet, the first pallet is pushed inward to make room for the next pallet. This process is repeated until the aisle is full, with all goods being lifted and tilted inwards towards the aisle.
Outbound/Outbound Process
After removing the front pallet, the remaining pallets automatically slide forward one space under gravity, allowing the next pallet to slide directly to the front of the picking aisle for easy forklift retrieval.
Storage Mode and Applicable Conditions
The entire racking system follows the LIFO (Last In, First Out) rule, with the last stored pallet being retrieved first. The structure offers stable loading and unloading, making it suitable only for storing goods that conform to LIFO management logic.
The operation only requires a single channel at the front end, relying on gravity for automatic sliding and following the last-in-first-out (LIFO) principle. It is suitable for batches of similar goods, but should not be used for time-sensitive goods that require first-in-first-out (FIFO).
